Deadlines

Kennington Chronicle editorial submissions

All articles, reports and news need to be received and agreed by 4 p.m. on the 15th of the month prior to publication. (Remember that there is no August edition, so entries intended for August must be received by 15th June.)

Submitting articles

We welcome articles that are:

  • News, not views.
  • Of relevance specifically to Kennington Village. We can often accept articles of general interest; contact the Editor for clarification.
  • Shorter than an A4 page. We can on occasion accept longer ones at the Editor’s discretion, subject to both space and suitability.

We do not accept anonymous submissions.

If you wish to submit an entry, but need help with composing it, the editor will be pleased to advise. Contact the Editor for more information.

Automated reminders

The Editor provides a semi-automated email reminder for regular submitters. This is sent on the 8th or 9th of each month except July (because there is no August edition). The reminders are opt-in only. If you wish your email address to be added to (or removed from) the list, please contact the Editor.

Format

We prefer electronic articles. We can accept:

  • MS Word (.doc or .docx)
  • Open Document Format, OpenOffice, LibreOffice (.odt)
  • MS Works (.wks)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • Simple text files
  • Email
  • The Editor does not have a Mac, and therefore cannot accept a “pages” document.

If you are unable to submit any of these, please submit as a PDF (.pdf), or printed, or clearly-written handwritten copy.

Logos, photographs and other images

You can send logos, photographs and other images for inclusion with articles, but these will be subject to space and quality.

Images must be sent as separate attachments in emails, as we cannot extract images from documents. In other words, images sent within Word, PDF or other documents will not be used unless you also send those images separately.

When sending images, please send the highest resolution that you have; don’t shrink or compress photographs before sending. We are able to crop and resize as required to the resolution that our Printer requires.

The online and library copies are in full colour, so please don’t convert your images to black-and-white when submitting them.

Photographs containing minors may be printed only with the permission of the children’s parents or guardians.

Please do not submit copyrighted images, unless you own the copyright or have permission to publish them. Images found through an internet search (such as Google) are usually copyrighted!

Submission Policy

We reserve the right, at the Editor’s discretion, to edit or omit any entry that is submitted for publication. The editorial committee’s policy is “News Not Views”.

Articles are generally accepted only if relevant to the residents of Kennington Village, or are likely to be of interest to its general readership.

Please include your name, and your contact telephone or email address. Items without these contact details will be discarded.
